About Laurie Prentice
I like considering myself a visual storyteller. Photography for me is a means of communication and expression. I try to use my camera to illustrate feelings, impressions, imaginary or real little stories. I'm not a professional; occasionally I might sell photos (when I sell one of my prints, I'm always surprised), but I will never consider myself a professional.
In my experience with photography, I have learned it is about capturing the right moment. The perfect, photographic moments are all around us; you just have to notice them. I am always looking for beautiful, strange and unusual things to shoot. I love nature and all four seasons, sunrises and sunsets, flowers and trees, hills and valleys, water and sand, critters, the moon and stars...the world.
I have been a volunteer photographer for the St. Paul Winter Carnival since 2005. One of my photos won the 2nd Place Silver Pinnacle Award for Best Event Photograph at the International Festivals & Events Association.
Photography has allowed me the opportunity to capture interesting people, objects and places. I have been inspired by many photographers. Some I have never met, but their photography I admire and it takes my breath away. On other occasions I have enjoyed meeting other photographers and learning to see what their artful eye sees and what inspires them.
I have recently become a member of the Photographic Society of America, and look forward to expanding my skills in the world of Fine Art Photography.
